Show Notes
Peta interviewed Suzanne Zacharia, a complementary therapist and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) trainer, about her journey into EFT and her professional work. Suzanne shared how she discovered EFT after a serious illness (COPD) at university led her to explore alternative therapies, starting with hypnotherapy before finding EFT more effective.Â
She discussed her personal transformation, including running her first half marathon in 2011, and how EFT helped her address both physical symptoms and trauma, including medical trauma from undiagnosed conditions.Â
Suzanne also mentioned her work as founder of Energy Healers Organization and director of Energy Practitioners Association, where she is helping to develop formal EFT qualifications both in the UK and South Africa.
Suzanne explained how EFT became a recognized occupational qualification in South Africa, requiring 60 hours of personal practice before practitioners can work with clients, and discussed her current efforts to establish similar qualifications in the UK through collaboration with health departments.
Takeaways
- Suzanne's path into EFT began with her own serious health crisis, including COPD and chronic illness, which left her bed-bound before EFT transformed her health.
- She introduces the Personal Peace Procedure — working through 5–10 specific life events daily — which she describes as the most foundational element of EFT practice.
- Suzanne shares research showing EFT outperforms CBT long-term, with benefits maintained at 6, 12, and 24 months, while CBT participants saw increased anxiety and cravings.
- She discusses her work establishing EFT as a formal occupational qualification in both South Africa and the UK, with structured progression from Healer to Practitioner level.
- A minimum of 60 personal EFT hours is required before certification, ensuring practitioners understand pain, trauma, and cravings from lived experience.
- Suzanne explains how practitioners who experience their own releases during training are far better equipped to guide clients through the same process.
- She also covers how EFT and hypnotherapy can work together, with hypnotherapy playing a complementary rather than primary role.
- Growing institutional support — including approval from South Africa's health department and the UK Health Department — signals a broader shift toward legitimising energy-based therapies.

00:00:02.090 --> 00:00:21.179
Welcome back, everybody, to another episode of the Fourth Wave in Therapy, and I'm thrilled today to be talking to a colleague in my kind of skill area and research area, and that's, of course, of emotional freedom techniques. I would like to introduce you to Suzanne Zachariah. Now, did I pronounce that correctly, Suzanne? I did mean to check.
1
00:00:21.900 --> 00:00:36.669
Oh, correctly. Perfect. Yes. Suzanne is a complementary therapist, trainer, and a leading voice in EFT emotional freedom techniques, or as we call it, tapping. Originally trained as a science researcher in chemistry and biochemistry.
2
00:00:36.670 --> 00:00:54.640
Her career took an unexpected turn after serious illness at university, which led her to explore alternative approaches to healing. She went on to train in hypnotherapy before discovering EFT, or tapping, which she found to be significantly more effective, and so we're hoping to get into that today.
3
00:00:54.640 --> 00:01:11.330
Suzanne is the founder of Energy Healers organization, and now serves as the Director of Energy Practitioners Association, where she's helping to develop formal EFT qualifications. That is, of course, in the UK, but also South Africa, so we are going to have a chat.
4
00:01:11.330 --> 00:01:15.209
I know Suzanne's work is about raising professional standards.
5
00:01:15.210 --> 00:01:23.580
and making EFT a credible, accessible modality for people worldwide. Welcome, Suzanne, and thank you so much for your time today.
6
00:01:24.480 --> 00:01:32.640
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I love to talk to people like yourself, who are pioneers in the field, but tell me.
7
00:01:32.900 --> 00:01:45.590
How did you come to EFT? I know you told us a little bit in your bio about your own personal journey, but do you want to share with our audience just how sometimes EFT finds you? How did that happen?
8
00:01:46.010 --> 00:01:57.420
Yeah, I've started looking for ways when my mind was opened, because I was one of those scientists who had a very closed mind.
9
00:01:57.560 --> 00:02:01.740
And, my mind was being opened.
10
00:02:02.080 --> 00:02:06.700
I could never work in science because I couldn't do the hours.
11
00:02:07.050 --> 00:02:17.169
And, I only got a 2-2 because I was really ill at university, which is a miracle I actually passed. So,
12
00:02:17.680 --> 00:02:24.980
I ended up working in sales in a company that didn't mind how many hours I put in, they just wanted
13
00:02:25.150 --> 00:02:32.070
The company to have their profit, the client to be happy, and that's all that matters.
14
00:02:32.110 --> 00:02:48.200
time I went in did not matter, and anybody out there who's chronically ill will know exactly what I'm talking about. So, and there, everybody there believed in complementary therapy, which was then alternative therapy. It was a very long time ago.
15
00:02:48.670 --> 00:03:04.790
And they kept pushing me in the right direction, and I kept resisting. You know, I'm not going there, I'm a scientist, I don't believe in any of that rubbish, until one day, I was desperate, and I took a phone number.
16
00:03:04.790 --> 00:03:17.220
And the rest is history. And then I decided, I started getting a bit better with their advice, a little bit better, a little bit better. It's a lung condition, so it's kind of, like, really important.
17
00:03:17.350 --> 00:03:28.299
2011, I ran my first half marathon. Wow. I am 100%, I'm 100% certain there was no way I could have done it without EFT.
18
00:03:28.500 --> 00:03:35.309
So, I discovered various therapies, one of which was hypnotherapy. I was stuck on two clients.
19
00:03:36.250 --> 00:03:39.429
And I reached out to my peers.
20
00:03:39.580 --> 00:03:55.180
And my supervisor didn't know about EFT, but he was a really good… he was the best supervisor, basically. But he didn't know about EFT, and I reached out to my peers, and they said, you've got to study EFT. I'd known about it for a year, and I just thought.
21
00:03:55.900 --> 00:04:02.239
Nice people, they're very well-intentioned, but I don't believe them. I love it.
22
00:04:05.580 --> 00:04:14.739
So, in desperation, I learned EFT, and then I… I recalled a lot of clients.
23
00:04:15.470 --> 00:04:23.190
And worked with them. I was very serious about my personal peace procedure, and I found out that a lot of my symptoms
24
00:04:23.800 --> 00:04:29.560
were partly due to trauma, including the medic…
25
00:04:30.380 --> 00:04:36.419
cultural trauma, where I was diagnosed, et cetera, et cetera.
26
00:04:36.720 --> 00:04:41.670
That's the long story.
27
00:04:45.570 --> 00:04:48.900
And, also…
28
00:04:54.080 --> 00:05:00.410
He helped me use the breathing, basically involves things like taping your mouth at night.
2
00:00:10.660 --> 00:00:21.800
not only having a lung condition, but you ran a half marathon.Â
4
00:00:33.190 --> 00:00:48.849
Right. It was a lung condition, is that right? That you had a lung condition? It's a lung condition. It's finally been diagnosed as COPD, but when you're 25, it's really hard to get diagnosed, especially in the UK, where the health system is really
5
00:00:50.400 --> 00:00:52.259
Yeah, sure, and…
6
00:00:52.320 --> 00:01:08.540
And you said that trauma had… with your EFT that supported you, and you were… hypnotherapy as well, that it came to, light for you that there was trauma in the background, that perhaps it influenced… There was a lot of trauma that… that…
7
00:01:08.540 --> 00:01:16.100
Perhaps doubled my symptoms. So, another wonderful thing that Gary Craig did in those days.
8
00:01:16.220 --> 00:01:25.309
He encouraged us to learn similar systems that were EFT cousins, and one of them was allergy antidotes. Oh, tell us about that.
9
00:01:26.170 --> 00:01:36.919
Allergy Antidotes is, made up by Sandy Dradomsky. It came from N-A-E-T, Nambrijabad's Allergy Elimination Techniques.
10
00:01:37.190 --> 00:01:45.619
technique, I think. And, one of the modalities that it uses
11
00:01:45.740 --> 00:01:52.569
for desensitizing as much as possible is EFT. Oh, wow.
12
00:01:52.570 --> 00:02:06.600
So, yeah, instead of having the emotion there, we have the substance there, and I used it to desensitize against air pressures. I really did my personal peace procedure.
13
00:02:06.600 --> 00:02:25.179
And anybody out there who has a chronic emotional or mental condition, what I highly recommend is Personal Peace Procedure Daily for 2 years. There are no shortcuts, but the results are amazing. So I went from being so ill, I had
14
00:02:25.470 --> 00:02:29.570
like, for 3 months, I remember being more or less bed-bound.
15
00:02:29.790 --> 00:02:43.980
Wow. And went from that to running my first half marathon in 2011, second half marathon in 2017, and now my knees are knackered, so I'm just waiting for medical advancements.
16
00:02:43.990 --> 00:02:44.840
So…
17
00:02:44.840 --> 00:03:06.199
So that I can run again, yes, yeah. That's amazing, and having run, quite a few half marathons myself, and again, I've retired too, I'm like, I'd rather do yoga these days. I know the impact that it takes, and the dedication and the commitment, let alone a diagnosis of COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, if anyone is, listening in.
18
00:03:06.200 --> 00:03:24.250
Can we unpack a little bit more about this personal peace procedure, in case some of our listeners might be new to EFT, and I know it was kind of a recommendation by Gary Craig, the founder, but tell us, in your understanding and your words, what is the personal peace procedure?
19
00:03:24.970 --> 00:03:28.819
It is the most important thing about EFT.
20
00:03:29.260 --> 00:03:30.170
No.
21
00:03:31.110 --> 00:03:36.640
I own a site, which is my main EFT site, called EFT Scripts.
22
00:03:37.020 --> 00:03:48.740
So… What I do there… Is explain to people how to form unique statements for their unique situation.
23
00:03:49.320 --> 00:03:59.640
Right. But… People like to do, we all do, it's human nature, like to take shortcuts, and get…
24
00:03:59.740 --> 00:04:16.099
a one-size-fits-all, which never works. The personal peace procedure contains many elements. The first one, it's personal. It's about what happened to the person and how that person can heal.
25
00:04:16.140 --> 00:04:30.600
Peace, it does lead to peace, and procedure means you can't just wish it to happen, you've got to sit down and do it. But, oh my goodness, it is so worth it. So what we do.
26
00:04:30.790 --> 00:04:42.619
People have asked me how to do it, and I've given many different examples. One example is every day, and I really would not recommend that, especially if somebody's got
27
00:04:42.620 --> 00:04:51.829
complex PTSD, for example. There is no way I would recommend to them to sit down and write down all their traumas before they were… that's…
28
00:04:51.940 --> 00:05:05.549
A no-no. The easiest, best, safest way, especially if somebody's doing it on their own, is to every day say, what's the worst thing that happened to me that I feel safe working on today?
29
00:05:07.080 --> 00:05:13.700
And we're looking at an event. An event is a meeting time between… meeting between time and space.
30
00:05:13.800 --> 00:05:17.850
It's that meeting point between time and space that makes it an event.
31
00:05:18.330 --> 00:05:34.820
So it's not something that happened over years, because that's a bit too general. Something very specific, and don't worry if there are a thousand specific things, by working on about 5 to 10 specific things, the effect will generalize over the thousand.
32
00:05:35.370 --> 00:05:42.620
And so work on events, you can also work on people as you imagine an image of that person.
33
00:05:43.020 --> 00:06:01.679
You can work on a negative belief, like, I'm not good enough, or I'm not attractive, or whatever it is. So every day, find something to work on. Another thing that I suggest to people, okay, well, if you're stuck, just think to yourself, what's the worst thing that could have happened to me?
34
00:06:01.680 --> 00:06:09.070
before I was born, that does have an effect. Many treatments on that, that opened my mind.
35
00:06:09.280 --> 00:06:12.770
What… what's the worst thing that happened?
36
00:06:13.130 --> 00:06:26.309
Between birth and 1 years of age. What's the worst thing that happened between 1 and 2 years of age, all the way to the current time? So if somebody, you know, can't quite figure it out, this is the easiest way.
37
00:06:26.310 --> 00:06:34.660
And just keep going. And the amount of peace that you will feel at the end is… is just…
38
00:06:34.690 --> 00:06:58.840
I can't describe it, you have to experience it. I'm sure you've experienced it, but yes, you out there have to experience it. And I do know Gary Craig termed it the personal peace procedure, because that is what you get out of it at the end. So, let me just, summarize, see if I've got this right for anyone listening in as well. So, it is kind of a process that you sit down. You mentioned, you know, daily for a couple of years, and
39
00:06:59.050 --> 00:07:04.589
Committing to it over time seems to have such a long-lasting effect, that you sit down and…
40
00:07:04.940 --> 00:07:18.820
You said, I like that question. What is it today that I could work on that I feel safe enough to do some tapping around, and maybe something that happened, you know, in one of those time frames of life, you know, before I was born.
41
00:07:18.890 --> 00:07:32.910
primary school, you know, 5 to 6 years of age, whatever it might be. And you're tapping to kind of resolve, aren't you? Whatever your feelings are now, thinking back, that if you still feel affected by that.
42
00:07:33.180 --> 00:07:41.629
event that happened, or that belief, or whatever it might be, so that if you get some peace now, and the generalization effect that you mentioned.
43
00:07:41.650 --> 00:07:53.859
That really is about… because you did say, if you write down a thousand things that you're kind of… I always say, you know, if you lived your life all over again, you don't have to work through all of those, do you? Because that is… that's what's happening here.
44
00:07:53.980 --> 00:07:56.360
With generalisation, yeah.
45
00:07:56.650 --> 00:08:07.619
Absolutely, and it really… it's so important that we've put it… South Africa was the first to go, because I was living there.
46
00:08:07.620 --> 00:08:17.999
The health department there found it so important that people learn EFT that they actually supported in every way.
47
00:08:18.000 --> 00:08:19.209
the whole thing.
48
00:08:19.440 --> 00:08:21.869
Oh, wow, tell us a little bit more about that.
49
00:08:21.980 --> 00:08:36.019
Because I know, you are based in the UK presently, but you've spent a lot of your life in South Africa, and you've been instrumental in EFT tapping being used in South Africa. Tell us a little bit about that journey.
50
00:08:36.909 --> 00:08:41.799
Well… In every country, there's something called an occupational qualification.
51
00:08:42.700 --> 00:08:50.400
So, I think in my, one of my, communications with you before now, I said.
52
00:08:50.790 --> 00:08:55.199
Some people want to go to the fourth wave without going through the first, second.
53
00:08:55.250 --> 00:09:07.390
And so on. And, whereas I do appreciate my mind therapy's training, I do appreciate the hypnotherapy, I do appreciate the psychology, I do appreciate the NLP,
54
00:09:07.430 --> 00:09:16.779
NLP, I definitely appreciate. You know, people should be able to go straight into the fourth wave.
55
00:09:16.850 --> 00:09:19.730
And with that, they need proper training.
56
00:09:20.140 --> 00:09:29.459
And, what happened when I went there is, before then, I wanted to do it in the UK where I was living.
57
00:09:29.530 --> 00:09:45.410
But through marriage, I had this wonderful opportunity to go to South Africa, which is a wonderful country to live in, and especially in Cape Town, where we were. I was teaching EFT, but I think it's really important
58
00:09:45.610 --> 00:09:53.780
People come to EFT when they're a little bit older. Maybe they have an autistic child. Maybe their mother is ill.
59
00:09:54.160 --> 00:10:06.720
Maybe they've had an accident. Maybe they've had workplace stress and were burnt out. And so they discover EFT, and then they feel so wonderful, they want to go out and heal the world.
60
00:10:06.950 --> 00:10:13.779
Right? And… So, then they sign on to an EFT course.
61
00:10:14.020 --> 00:10:30.770
And then they find out the harsh reality of life is you have to train to be a psychotherapist. For example, you have to train to be a counselor. We're talking about 4 to 5 years of training of somebody who has to every day look after their autistic child.
62
00:10:30.770 --> 00:10:36.960
Or who has, has been ill for a while, and therefore.
63
00:10:37.370 --> 00:10:44.479
Finances are depleted, or they have an elderly relative to look after.
64
00:10:44.700 --> 00:10:55.299
And so they can't fit that into their lives, so it's really important to have something that's modular, so it's done in modules that you build on.
65
00:10:55.330 --> 00:11:10.590
And also, if somebody wants to learn it in a university, they can. If somebody wants to learn it in, you know, wants to do most of the work at home, they can.
66
00:11:11.000 --> 00:11:20.760
And so the health department and the education department have to come together, and that's what makes an occupational qualification.
67
00:11:20.770 --> 00:11:38.129
And they really had very strict requirements for us. And, they would say, okay, they'll click their fingers, say jump, and I'll just say how high? Yes, sir, no, sir, 3 bags full, so I deleted everything they asked for.
68
00:11:38.370 --> 00:11:41.350
And so we got our qualification through.
69
00:11:41.510 --> 00:11:50.700
And we have a wonderful lady out there called Lamise Benjamin. She's a director of the Energy Healers organization.
70
00:11:50.770 --> 00:12:09.099
Just like myself, we have another director called Soraya Shabuddin. Lamis leads the way with EFT training courses in South Africa, and she is currently applying for her training organization to be recognized
71
00:12:09.160 --> 00:12:27.190
by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations, I think it's called. So does that mean that in South Africa, the Health Department and the education department coming together and intersecting with this occupational therapy you were mentioning.
72
00:12:27.290 --> 00:12:32.330
Is it that they're now recognizing or approving, I'm not sure what the right word is.
73
00:12:32.440 --> 00:12:48.570
the EFT training? EFT is… EFT is a recognized occupational qualification in South Africa. It's also an international qualification, so if anybody wants to make the trip to study with Lemies from nearby countries or whatever.
74
00:12:48.570 --> 00:13:04.060
then, it should be recognized internationally. One of the… now, this is the interesting thing, Peter. We were talking about the personal peace procedure. Yes. In South Africa, we're really, really strict.
75
00:13:04.210 --> 00:13:06.249
After the first…
76
00:13:06.450 --> 00:13:20.530
learning of EFT. We call it EFT Level 1, and then the person gets the… when they completed that course, they get, a certificate for a year called EFT Healer.
77
00:13:20.800 --> 00:13:29.539
And then it's after that that they can go on and learn more, they can be called EFT practitioner, and so on. So.
78
00:13:30.080 --> 00:13:39.090
You have to do a minimum of 60 hours of the personal peace procedure.
79
00:13:39.500 --> 00:13:49.280
Before you get the first, call it, completion certificate for working on yourself, friends, and family.
80
00:13:49.620 --> 00:13:58.030
Oh, I love it, I love it. That is just so important, isn't it? I don't… I want to… I just want to come back to this before we move on to the next bit, because
81
00:13:58.210 --> 00:14:05.700
Ultimately, what you're saying is, I think, what most of us in the field, are also kind of recommending.
82
00:14:05.820 --> 00:14:14.760
That the amount of work you do on yourself in your training, and you're saying 60 hours here in that personal peace procedure, kind of on your own past.
83
00:14:15.120 --> 00:14:26.789
That is ultimately what's making you a better practitioner, isn't it, down the… 100%. I'm guessing that's why you've been so strict in saying, no, this is part of the curriculum. Absolutely.
84
00:14:26.850 --> 00:14:40.520
Yeah. Wow. Yeah. And it goes further. After you've done your second bit of in-person training, or online training, you have to do another 60 hours
85
00:14:41.530 --> 00:14:57.550
Wow. I love it! Minimum. This is fantastic. I can hear anyone listening in that may have their own training programs going, maybe we might need to, extend the amount of personal work that people are doing. Yeah.
86
00:14:57.680 --> 00:15:05.010
Yeah. How do you know how pain really moves through the body unless you've tapped for it yourself?
87
00:15:05.330 --> 00:15:06.170
Yeah.
88
00:15:06.490 --> 00:15:07.530
That's right.
89
00:15:08.180 --> 00:15:18.540
How do you know how to treat a trauma, and what can happen when you treat a trauma? And about abreactions, unless you've done it yourself?
90
00:15:19.080 --> 00:15:32.230
You know, how do you recognize what is a trauma unless you've done it yourself? It's so important. How do you… food is an interesting one, because EFT with food is not
91
00:15:32.920 --> 00:15:38.880
I found this out through just… not just my own personal philosophy, but also working with clients.
92
00:15:39.190 --> 00:15:44.920
It seems to balance people's… body's perception
93
00:15:45.050 --> 00:15:48.029
Of the so-called food in front of them.
94
00:15:48.540 --> 00:16:07.440
So whether it's friend or foe. So this is just the first piece procedure in general, or is it addressing food itself? Both, okay. So we, you know, Gary Craig, in his wisdom, insisted in the first, first, first training, which he then called EFT Level 1,
95
00:16:07.690 --> 00:16:23.970
That, what we need to do is, make sure that attendees experience at least three things. An emotional issue release, a pain issue release, and a cravings release.
96
00:16:24.080 --> 00:16:33.669
There you go. So, by working… by people working on cravings for different foods as part of their personal peace procedure.
97
00:16:33.730 --> 00:16:47.579
They get… their body realigns without all the emotions, with the reality that food is nutrition. Food is not entertainment, it's nutrition.
98
00:16:47.670 --> 00:16:59.500
That's all it is. Yeah, and I must say, in all our years and years, because that was where my research started, was the food cravings, we never really had to help people tap on wanting to eat
99
00:16:59.500 --> 00:17:09.569
more nutritious foods, or drink more water for hydration. Purely by reducing cravings, what we did found as kind of a natural byproduct, and I think it's what you're saying.
100
00:17:09.609 --> 00:17:17.750
people became more, I guess, in tune with their body's needs, and when we asked them 6 months, 12 months down the track.
101
00:17:17.839 --> 00:17:32.600
you know, how's the food craving? And they're like, oh, I don't have the food craving anymore, and they're like, but I've naturally just felt drawn to more nutritious foods, or, you know, wanting to hydrate myself in healthy ways, but they didn't ever have to do tapping on that. It was like…
102
00:17:32.680 --> 00:17:51.209
I guess the peeling of the onion on the craving, and reducing that, and it kind of cleans it up, we come back to that sense of self of who we really are and what we really need for true kind of health, I guess. And I feel like that's what you're kind of reflecting back, am I right?
103
00:17:52.010 --> 00:18:06.599
Yeah, I'm really interested in that research. If I understood it correctly, please correct me if I've misunderstood it. Whereas, initially, the effects were comparable to CBT,
104
00:18:07.040 --> 00:18:11.320
Upon 6 months' follow-up, there was a difference, is that right?
105
00:18:11.370 --> 00:18:28.090
Absolutely. So, when we did do our gold standard comparisons, yes, we were getting very similar, outcomes just 8 weeks across the trial to cognitive behavioural therapy, but we always do 6 months, 12 months, and we did do a 2-year follow-up on one of the groups.
106
00:18:28.300 --> 00:18:32.449
Yes, that is what happened, that at the 6-month and 12th month.
107
00:18:32.460 --> 00:18:45.379
time points, the cognitive behavioural therapy group, the CBT group, their anxiety had increased again, which meant their cravings had increased. Any weight that they might have lost, they'd kind of regained.
108
00:18:45.380 --> 00:18:54.640
And all those treatment effects disappeared for them. So, you're right, EFT achieved its outcomes in the 8-week period.
109
00:18:54.790 --> 00:19:06.599
But then maintained it, and if anything, we measured this one variable, restraint, like your ability, if food… if the chocolate cake's sitting in front of you, you know, the ability to restrain yourself, willpower, and…
110
00:19:06.600 --> 00:19:24.989
that actually got better and better over time with the EFT group, even though they didn't have to keep tapping, but the CBT group kind of lost all their treatment effects. So, I know it's always really important to kind of look at those follow-up periods when we… Yeah. Yeah, are comparable, because…
111
00:19:25.050 --> 00:19:41.729
EFT seems to last a lot longer, and without any extra effort, and I think that's the same thing we're talking about. Absolutely, it's the longevity of the treatment, which is not comparable anymore. It's…
112
00:19:42.910 --> 00:20:01.159
Yeah. Yeah, superior. We use the word superior, Suzanne. Yeah, superior, yes, I was gonna use that word, and I was thought, no, no, no, bite your tongue, Suzanne. No, no, no. So, if someone's curious, and maybe they… they have, too, have a chronic health issue, or…
113
00:20:01.160 --> 00:20:03.259
You know, they're listening in and thinking.
114
00:20:03.260 --> 00:20:22.110
Okay, I know a little… I've heard about this EFT thing as well, and maybe I kind of haven't really given much kind of due diligence to it, but I'm curious to kind of go and explore a bit further, and maybe this personal peace procedure. What do you think is kind of a good place to start for someone that might just want to use it themselves?
115
00:20:23.660 --> 00:20:31.850
A really good place to start is to do an EFT Level 1 or EFT Foundational course.
116
00:20:32.150 --> 00:20:40.440
And just, you know, one that does include those three elements that Gary Craig asked us to include at the beginning.
117
00:20:40.480 --> 00:20:53.460
And… because that covers a wide range of things, and they'll get an idea of how to do it. Otherwise, they can have one, two, or three sessions with a practitioner, and then have…
118
00:20:53.610 --> 00:20:58.160
Have a blueprint on how to move forward on their own.
119
00:20:58.430 --> 00:21:07.439
Yeah, that's such a good, a good point, that sometimes it is that personal direction where you kind of can learn the technique, and yeah, that's so true.
120
00:21:07.460 --> 00:21:21.680
And Tommy, you did train in hypnotherapy, you then went on to train in EFT. Do you find them comparable as modalities or approaches? Do they have a place with different things, or do you have a preference of one over the other?
121
00:21:22.960 --> 00:21:31.169
Hypnotherapy, when I talk to people about it that are interested, I say, okay.
122
00:21:32.090 --> 00:21:37.139
It depends on whether there's somebody who…
123
00:21:37.950 --> 00:21:43.660
Everybody gets EFT, by the way. Everybody I treat gets EFT, unless they say no.
124
00:21:43.860 --> 00:21:44.660
Sure.
125
00:21:44.900 --> 00:21:56.589
If they say no, they're amongst the 1 in 200, but otherwise, you know, when they hear of the advantages, then they're very likely to say yes.
126
00:21:56.750 --> 00:22:03.359
Hypnotherapy has a place in helping people relax.
127
00:22:03.600 --> 00:22:13.109
And… What I say to people, it's like driving a Model T Ford, On the motorway or highway.
128
00:22:13.430 --> 00:22:18.889
At 70 miles an hour, if it went at 70 miles an hour, I've really no idea.
129
00:22:19.090 --> 00:22:31.469
As opposed to driving a Tesla, I know where I would feel safer, and I know what would get me there easier and more reliably. Model T Fords are beautiful.
130
00:22:31.690 --> 00:22:48.059
And they're nice in a collector's collection, but I really can't see myself driving one. Hypnotherapy is an old technique. It does have its place. It does have its place. And sometimes I use it as a reward.
131
00:22:48.410 --> 00:22:55.290
So after somebody has worked on everything they want to work on, and got it all out of the way.
132
00:22:55.680 --> 00:23:17.629
Their reward is being sent to a beautiful paradise island in their mind, where they can completely relax. Oh, I love that. You know, so I use it that way, yeah. Unless somebody is just so overwhelmed, or… and also, I would use hypnotherapy instead, although it still doesn't work that well in that case.
133
00:23:17.670 --> 00:23:24.500
If somebody is malnourished in some way, I mean, people could be eating a lot, but still be malnourished.
134
00:23:24.610 --> 00:23:34.310
Or they're… they're eating the wrong things that are somehow clogging up their systems, because EFT isn't magic.
135
00:23:34.510 --> 00:23:41.979
It works with biochemistry, it works with the nervous system. Nervous system includes the brain, for anybody out there.
136
00:23:42.090 --> 00:23:52.479
So if either of these is being given the wrong substrate upon which to develop, then they're not going to work.
137
00:23:52.840 --> 00:24:05.909
So that's where hypnotherapy can give people a little bit of relief, but results-wise, there is no comparison. Wow. That's fantastic. Suzanne,
138
00:24:06.010 --> 00:24:17.659
I think, you know, the biggest takeaway for me is how important in the EFT tapping training, but also personal work, the personal peace procedure is, that it's only going to make you
139
00:24:17.660 --> 00:24:27.899
a better practitioner, if that is the path that you want to go down, but also just the benefits you get by committing to. And I certainly know it's 25 years ago for me now.
140
00:24:27.900 --> 00:24:34.530
Keeping a journal of what I was working on in my personal peace procedure allowed me to sort of look back and
141
00:24:34.530 --> 00:24:48.979
I've told a few people myself, my husband often… he's an engineer, so completely different field, but used to write down the tapping we were doing and things like that. Anyway, a couple of months goes by, a few years ago now, and he found his little tapping journal.
142
00:24:48.980 --> 00:24:52.790
personal piece, and looked back, and it was his handwriting.
143
00:24:52.900 --> 00:24:56.630
And he was reading it, and he's like, oh, when did I write this?
144
00:24:56.760 --> 00:25:06.250
And I said, oh, don't you remember? Because I remember. We were sitting on the bed, you wanted to do tapping on, and so I was leading him, guiding him, but he was writing it in his own handwriting.
145
00:25:06.530 --> 00:25:14.980
And so, it was just an aspect of his personal peace procedure, but in months gone by, when he looked back and he read it, he says out loud.
146
00:25:15.670 --> 00:25:23.729
Oh, well, I know I must have done the tapping, because I can see the numbers, and I can see the statements, but that doesn't feel like me anymore.
147
00:25:23.850 --> 00:25:41.059
And I'm like, I wish I had a camera in this moment to take this kind of snapshot of him, because that's what happens, isn't it? You… you reflect back, and if you have kept a journal, you have a look, and you kind of think, yeah, wow, I'm… I'm not affected by that anymore, and…
148
00:25:41.250 --> 00:25:51.769
Yeah, personal peace procedure can be so profound in that space. Absolutely. Absolutely. We could even forget that we had an issue with something.
149
00:25:52.010 --> 00:26:05.790
Yeah. So keep a journal, everybody, if you are listening in and kind of thinking, yeah, I want to commit to this again, and maybe do 60 days, or 60 hours, or whatever it might be, and keep a journal so that you can keep track of that. Yeah.
150
00:26:05.790 --> 00:26:13.180
Yeah. Suzanne, I just want to thank you. You know, I sit over in the research, sort of, field of EFT, but…
151
00:26:13.270 --> 00:26:25.079
It's clinicians like yourself that have taken it into countries like South Africa, had it approved. It is a qualification, and it opens the doors for so many people to
152
00:26:25.210 --> 00:26:36.020
come and train in this modality to then benefit the clients who will come into their world. And that's because of people like you. Like, you obviously married a South African and went over there, but
153
00:26:36.200 --> 00:26:43.540
yeah, we're able to kind of make that happen, and I just want to acknowledge that, you know, for our audience. Thank you.
154
00:26:43.650 --> 00:26:53.139
That's phenomenal. Like, it's hard yards. I know what it takes to create these things, so, thank you so much for actually pursuing it. Thank you.
155
00:26:53.440 --> 00:27:11.289
And in the UK, we… I worked very hard when I lost my visa to South Africa, came back to the UK. I do it. Whichever country you put me in, I will do an EFT qualification. And so, we now have,
156
00:27:12.270 --> 00:27:23.129
For… for associations, and a potential to, two individual trainers, one of whom you know very well.
157
00:27:23.370 --> 00:27:41.279
And, the two trainers, I won't say they're yet on board, because I still have to have a meeting, an initial meeting with them, but otherwise, everybody else is on board. The health department in the UK is on board. They've given us the go-ahead to get started.
158
00:27:41.280 --> 00:27:48.470
And so we're at the funding stage, by the way, so if anybody out there wants to fund the UK process…
159
00:27:48.650 --> 00:28:04.290
That's fantastic. So is this to mimic the same as South Africa, where in the UK there'll be an EFT qualification, and is it the same occupational qualification? Occupational qualification, so somebody can go straight into the fourth wave if they want to.
160
00:28:04.570 --> 00:28:11.880
That's fantastic. They don't have to, but they can if they want to, yeah, so they'll get sufficient training to be able to do so.
161
00:28:12.010 --> 00:28:27.300
Amazing. Everybody, I've got Suzanne's website below in the show notes, so if anyone wants to reach out, certainly if you want to be part of this movement, reach out to Suzanne and her team and connect there. So we have got all those details below, so that…
162
00:28:27.300 --> 00:28:36.879
Anyone can take this further if they want to. Suzanne, I just want to say thank you. Thank you so much for sharing the work that you're doing in the world. It's been an absolute pleasure having a chat today.
163
00:28:37.770 --> 00:28:44.529
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. It's lovely finally meeting you in real time. Thank you. Thank you so much.
164
00:28:47.990 --> 00:29:11.610
Welcome back, everybody, and thank you for listening in to the Fourth Wave in Therapy. It's my absolute pleasure today to introduce you to our very special guest, Suzanne Zachariah. Suzanne is a complementary therapist, trainer, and a leading voice in emotional freedom techniques, EFT tapping. Of course, that's my world as well. Originally trained as a science researcher in chemistry and biochemistry.
165
00:29:11.700 --> 00:29:25.950
Suzanne's career took an unexpected turn after a serious illness at university, and it led her to explore alternative approaches to healing. She went on to train in hypnotherapy before discovering…
166
00:29:26.320 --> 00:29:36.039
tapping, which she found to be significantly more effective in her work with clients. Suzanne is the founder of the Energy Healers Association.
167
00:29:36.040 --> 00:29:52.699
And now serves as a director of the Energy Practitioners Association, where she is helping develop formal EFT qualifications in the UK and South Africa. And this is what we're going to talk about today. So thank you so much, Suzanne, and welcome to the Fourth Wave in Therapy.
168
00:29:53.530 --> 00:29:56.200
Thank you very much, it's a real pleasure.
169
00:29:59.500 --> 00:30:01.430
That's fantastic.
170
00:30:02.230 --> 00:30:03.130
We've done.

About Suzanne Zacharia
Suzanne Zacharia originally trained as a science researcher in chemistry and biochemistry, but a serious virus at university, combined with medical negligence, forced her to change direction after graduating. That unexpected detour led her into a company deeply rooted in what we now call complementary therapy, and eventually she discovered EFT. It transformed her life and the lives of so many clients. She had already trained as a hypnotherapist, but EFT quickly proved far more effective than anything hypnotherapy could offer.
Suzanne Zacharia entered EFT without pursuing counselling or psychotherapy and recognised the need for proper standards. She founded the Energy Healers Organisation in South Africa, creating the first standalone EFT qualification approved by both the health and education departments. Now back in the UK as a director of the Energy Practitioners Association, she has the go-ahead from the Health department to develop the UK qualification.
